Buhari decries improper use of TetFund

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has decried the improper use of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TetFund) by some universities in the country, this is just as he called on vice chancellors of universities to design policies and programmes that will have direct bearing on host communities.

Speaking at the inauguration of “President Muhammadu Buhari Kwara State University Library Complex” at Malete, Kwara State, on Saturday, the president decried improper use of the fund on less relevant infrastructures.

Represented by the Executive Secretary of TetFund, Professor Suleiman Bogoro, the president said that it was not possible for universities to achieve competitiveness without having a good library.

President Buhari also urged university managements to ensure all their projects are of good quality.

In his address, Kwara State governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who was represented by his deputy, Kayode Alabi, thanked President Buhari for his support to the people of the state.

Abdulrazaq, who said that the state government would spend N11.2bn to revamp the education infrastructure, assured that his administration will support the university to achieve academic excellence.

He also said the new library would assist the institution in aspects of teaching and research.

Earlier in his address, the out going Vice Chancellor, Kwara state University (KWASU), Malete, Professor Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, commended TETFUND for the support given to the university so far.

In a related development, Gombe State governor, Muhammadu InuwaYahaya, on Saturday, called on the body for the support of education in the state.

The governor, who visited the TetFund headquarters in Abuja where he met and discussed with the Executive Secretary of the Fund, Professor Sulaiman Elias Bogoro, and his management team on areas of cooperation and intervention, solicited for more assistance in his administration’s quest to revamp and reposition the education sector in the state at all levels.
