Buhari, Atiku mourn late Aboderin

President Muhammadu Buhari has extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the Chairman of Punch Nigeria Limited, Mr Gbadebowale Aboderin, who passed away at the age of 60.

A statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity) said the President equally commiserated with all members of the Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN), the media and sports industry in the country on the death of the respected entrepreneur and philanthropist.

He expressed his belief President that Aboderin, “who was greatly admired by his peers in the media and sports industry,” will be long remembered for his resourcefulness, managerial proficiency and invaluable contributions to the growth of these sectors.

The President prayed that God Almighty will comfort all who mourn him and grant his soul eternal rest.

Similarly, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed shock, sadness and anguish over the death of Aboderin.

A statement from his media office in Abuja said on Thursday that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential hopeful, was saddened over the sudden demise of the Chairman of “one of Nigeria’s leading media groups.”

It said the former Vice President felt the pains of the immediate Aboderin family in particular; the media, especially the Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN) and the teeming lovers of Punch newspapers worldwide.
“In today’s world, 60 years is too young an age for anyone to pass on with their lofty dreams. Wale Aboderin’s untimely departure is certainly heartbreaking: painful to the family, a monumental loss to the fourth estate of the realm and the nation at large,” the Waziri of Adamawa said.
The former Vice President noted that Wale had been in the vanguard of sustaining the vision of his late father and founder of the Punch group of newspapers and that he had also made his own mark as a philanthropist and founder of Dolphins Female Basketball Foundation.
Atiku prayed that the soul of the deceased shall find rest in eternity, and also that God grants the family the fortitude to bear the loss
Also, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has mourned the death of the Chairman of the Punch Newspapers Limited
A statement issued by Kola Ologbondiyan, its
National Publicity Secretary observed that Aboderin was a great Nigerian; a quintessential administrator and very ingenious entrepreneur, who committed his resource, in many spheres, towards the development of our dear nation.
It said his legacy in publishing a credible news media of the status of the Punch Newspapers remains an indelible mark in the history and development of journalism in Nigeria.
PDP observed that Aboderin was widely known for his philanthropy and sports enthusiasm, saying that the deceased played key role in the development of sports in Nigeria including as founder and chairman of the Dolphins Female Basketball Foundation as well as the former chairman of the Lagos, State Basketball Association.
The party said it was particularly pained that this very resourceful Nigerian left the stage at a time his contributions towards nation building are needed the most
The PDP commiserated with the family of the Aboderin, the Punch Newspapers and the media industry and prayed God to give them the fortitude to bear the loss.
