BENUE State University Teaching Hospital, BSUTH Makurdi, has said that the hospital treated over 400 victims of herdsmen between January and now.

Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof Terlumun Swende stated this yesterday when speaking with newsmen in his office in Makurdi.

He commended the state government for paying for the treatment of the victims which he said amounted to N20m.

Speaking on the activities in the hospital, Swende said that the hospital had received about N450 million from the Hospital Assist Nigeria (HAN) to enhance its services.

The Chief Medical Director said that the fund was meant for revamping facilities in the hospital adding that the money was utilized on Static and X-ray, Mammography and CT scan machines.

He also said that the hospital received medical equipment worth 97,780 Euros from Heineken African Foundation.

Prof Swende who boasted over the state of art facilities in the hospital appealed to the federal government to take urgent steps and take over the hospital.

“It would be far better if the federal government takes over the hospital as it will benefit the Benue people more. Buhari led government should make haste and take over the hospital so that he can win the heart of Benue people.

“If this is done, it will take off the huge financial burden from the State. So, I agree with Governor Samuel Ortom for his call that federal government should take over the hospital as it has done in other states,” he appealed.

The CMD attributed the brain drain of doctors in the country to the poor system in the country especially in the area of welfare.
