Britain signs MoU with FAAN

Aviation security training which had hitherto been cumbersome and highly expensive as it used to be carried out in foreign countries has been made easy with the certification of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Aviation Security Training Center (ASTC) established at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport.

The training center which will be of benefits to aviation sectors across the West African sub-region was commissioned by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Regional Director, Mr Mam Sait Jallow after a thorough evaluation carried out by the international body.

This is just as the British Government has signed a memorandum of understanding with FAAN on Aviation Security.

While the Managing Director of FAAN, Engineer Saleh Dunoma signed the MOU on behalf of the authority, Mr. Kenan Woods from the UK Department of Transportation signed on behalf of the British Government.

Speaking at the commissioning of the security training center, the ICAO representative declared that during the evaluation exercise that FAAN met all the specified requirements, just as he emphasised that it was necessary to evaluate each training center to determine its ability to provide sustainable high- level aviation security training at international, regional and national levels in accordance with established General criteria.
