Brigadier General Dominic Oneya, ex-Military Administrator of Kano, Benue states, dies at 73

The former Military Administrator of Kano and Benue states, Brigadier General Dominic Oneya, is dead. He was aged 73.

He died on Wednesday at his home town, Agbarho, Delta State, a family source confirmed.

However, the source said that Oneya died during a brief illness as he was in Abuja about a week ago.

Oneya was born 26 May 1948 in Apapa area of Lagos State.

He was Military Administrator of Kano State from August 1996 to August 1998 during the military regime of General Sani Abacha, then Administrator of Benue State from August 1998 to May 1999 during the regime of General Abdulsalami Abubakar.

He handed over power to the elected executive governor of Benue State, George Akume, on May 29, 1999.

Oneya later beecame Chairman of the Nigeria Football Association.
