Former Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura
Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-makura has declared that Breeze FM Lafia, would be fined instead of receiving compensation from the government.
The Nasarawa State Government had last month demolished a new private radio station it commissioned two months after the radio station commenced operation.
The governor made the statement on Tuesday in Lafia, the State Capital, during the distribution of relief materials to communities affected by communal clashes in the state.
He explained that the station was demolished because of its violation of laws guiding constructions in the state and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) law.
“We pulled down the radio station because the building was used for the radio, restaurant, prayer house, NGO, hotel and residential house which is not in conformity with the NBC regulation,” he said.
He, however, issued notice to the people of the state that, the government would commence demolition of residential houses and commercial areas that are not situated in conformity with the law from next week.
