President Bola Tinubu is currently holding an emergency meeting with security chiefs and paramilitary operatives at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting, convened under the National Security Council, aims to address the ongoing nationwide protests against hunger and bad governance.
In attendance are: Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, amongst other high-ranking military and police officers.
The meeting comes after President Tinubu’s national broadcast on Sunday, where he appealed to protesters to suspend their actions due to the violence and destruction reported in some states.
He warned that his administration would not tolerate attempts to undermine the country’s democracy.
The protests, which began on August 1, have seen widespread demonstrations across the country, with some turning violent.
The meeting is expected to discuss strategies to address the situation and restore peace and stability.
