BREAKING: Senate committee recommends Natasha’s suspension for six months

The Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions has proposed a six-month suspension for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan following her shouting match with the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, over seat arrangements.

The recommendation was contained in a report presented to the Senate on Thursday by the Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions.

According to the report, the suspension was based on a motion raised by Senator Adeyemi Raphael Adaramodu (Ekiti South), who referenced an incident on February 20, 2025.

He noted that Akpoti-Uduaghan had protested the reallocation of her seat in the Senate chamber, an action he claimed led to unwarranted public outcry.

Following the motion, the Senate referred the matter to the Ethics Committee for investigation.

The committee stated that while Akpoti-Uduaghan had taken legal action to prevent the Senate from performing its constitutional duties under Section 88(1) of the 1999 Constitution, she also submitted a petition on sexual harassment to the Senate, expecting it to be acted upon.

After due consideration of the matter as revealed by Senator Adeyemi Raphael Adaramodu, Senator Titus Tartenger Zam, Chamber staff and the Sergeant-At-Arm, the Committee recommends as follows:

  1. That the Senate do suspend Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for Six (6) months for her total violation of the Senate Standing rules 2023 as Amended for bringing the Presiding officer and the entire Senate in general to public opprobrium;
  2. That for the Senate to consider lifting the suspension, or reducing the tenure of suspension, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan shall submit a written apology to the Senate before the reconsideration by the Senate;
  3. That the Senate do suspend Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan with effect
    from (6th March, 2025) from all legislative activities forthwith;
  4. That her office be locked up for the duration of her suspension and hand over all Senate properties in her possession to the Clerk of the National
    Assembly;
  5. That for the duration of her suspension she cannot come or be seen within the vicinity of the National Assembly including her staff;
  6. That her salaries and allowances including those of her Legislative Aides be suspended and withdrawal of all Security details for the duration of her suspension and;
