BREAKING: Plenary stalled as Reps swear in Doguwa, five others

The normal plenary proceeding at the House of Representatives was temporarily stalled on Wednesday morning as the former majority leader of the House, Hon Ado Alhasan Doguwa, and five other members who were elected in last Saturday’s rerun elections were sworn in by the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Both the public gallery and the chambers were filled to capacity as a large crowd arrived the chambers from Kano State to felicitate Rep Doguwa.

The delegation from the Kano State led by the Governor Abdulahi Ganduje was made up of former governors, senators, supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), traditional and religious leaders among others.

Immediately after the brief swearing in of the new members, the House Chief Whip, Rep Tasir Mohammed Muogunu, moved a motion that the former House leader, Rep Doguwa, should take back his seat as the House leader.

The motion was seconded by Rep Oluga before it was unanimously supported by other members of the House.

Recall that the lawmakers were sacked from the Green Chambers last year following election petitions that arose from the 2019 general elections.
