The Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, and the candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been declared elected and returned for the second term in office.
The Returning Officer, Professor Fatima B. Mukhtar, announced the results of the supplementary elections held on Saturday, at the collation centre in the auditorium hall of Sultan Machido institute of Quranic and general studies in Sokoto at exactly 1:47 pm on Sunday.
Professor Fatima disclosed that the candidate of APC, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu, scores a total number of 25,515 votes to defeat the incumbent and the candidate of PDP, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who polled 22,444, with 3,071 votes.
It will be recalled that the candidate of the PDP won the election two weeks ago with a margin of 3,414 votes to defeat APC, before the call for the supplementary election as a result of the margins which is less than the canceled votes put at over 75,000 votes.
She disclosed that the total registered voters for the rerun election is 95,022, while the total accredited voters is 50,322, and total votes cast put at 48,390, she also put the total rejected votes at 1,580 votes.
According to the returning Officer, “The total number of registered voters for this election is 1,887,767, while the total accredited voters is 1,083,413 and the total valid votes is 1,036,332. Total votes cast is 1,067,994 and total rejected votes is put at 31,662 votes
“The candidate of APC scoreed total votes of 511,660, while the PDP scores total number of 512,002, which makes the difference of 342 in favour of PDP.
“I Fatima B Mukhtar hereby certified that I am the returning Officer of the Gubernatorial elections in Sokoto.
“That the candidates of APC, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu scores 511,660 while the PDP candidate, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal scores 512,002.
“That Tambuwal Aminu Waziri, having satisfied the electoral acts is hereby returned as elected governor of the state” she added.
Meanwhile, the collation agent of the APC, Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi, has rejected the results of Kebbe local government as announced by the collation officer for the local government area.
In his remarks, “I rise to reject the presentation of this results of Kebbe local government after we have laid down a lot complaint.
“We reported of a polling units where election was not conducted because of card readers issues.
“Again, election was done in a polling units where it was also conducted last time simply because the polling units belongs to the opposition Party” he added.
Responding, the returning officer, Professor Aisha, she said, “Thank you for your observations, it will be documented and I am sure it will be entertained at the tribunal.”
