BREAKING: Onnoghen loses bid to stop trial, appeal suspension

Suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen has lost the bid to stop his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal just as the Court of Appeal, Abuja refused an application for stay of proceedings against the CCT.

The court held that the charges filed against Onnoghen are criminal in nature and the proceedings before the CCT cannot be stopped.

Onnoghen had approached the Court of Appeal to appeal the ruling of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, ordering his suspension.

He had pleaded that the chairman of the CCT and a member Mrs Julie Anabor erred in law and violated the Constitution when they ordered his suspension.
