BREAKING: INEC declares Osun election inconclusive

There was stalemate in the conduct of the September 22 governorship poll in Osun State, on Sunday as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), declared the exercise inconclusive, even though the standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Isiaka Adeleke polled 254, 698 votes to defeat the Gboyega Isiaka Oyetola of the All Progressive Congress (APC) who garnered 254, 345 votes.
Though, the declaration of the election result by the Returning Officer (RO), who is the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technonlogy Akure (FUTA), Professor Joseph Fuwape, drew wild jubilation among the chieftains of the PDP, a new date would be announced by the electoral body for a rerun exercise, which would pave the way for the conduct of a free and fair election.
Fuwape, however, commended the resilience, maturity and patience exhibited by the political parties and their respective candidates before, during and after the declaration of the election as inconclusive.
As of the time of filing this report, the Returning Officer was calling the parties’ agents in turn to endorse the result sheets.
