BREAKING: Gov Ortom’s aide assassinated, wife shot in Benue

UNKNOWN gunmen at the early hours of Sunday, killed Governor Samuel Ortom’s Principal Special Assistant on Knowledge, Economy and Investment, Dr Tavershima Adyororough.

The gunmen, according to sources had invaded his residence located at BIPC Quarters, Nyiman in Makurdi  around 12.30 a.m., where they shot him and his wife.

It was gathered that the governor’s aide died instantly while his wife was said to have been rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

It will be recalled that the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Security matters, Mr Denen Igbane was also killed by gunmen in May 2016.

Confirming the incident, the Benue Police Command spokesman, ASP Moses Yamu said that police  received information that two yet to be identified gunmen early hours on Sunday  shot Dr. Tavershima Adyorough and his wife in their residence at BIPC Quarters Nyiman Makurdi.

Yamu said that   on arrival, police  rushed the couple to the BSU teaching hospital where the man was confirmed dead while the wife is currently receiving treatment .

He added that five expended cartridges were also recovered from the the scene of the crime.

The command spokesman said that the state commissioner of police  Mr Bashir Makama  has ordered the immediate investigation to unravel those behind this heinous crime and assured members of the public that the perpetrators will surely be brought to book.

But the state governor, Mr Samuel Ortom  has called on security agencies to immediately swing into action and arrest the perpetrators of the heinous act.

In the press statement made available to the Nigerian Tribune on Sunday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Terver Akase, the governor expressed disgust over the death of his aide and described the killing as unacceptable and condemnable,

Ortom described  his late aide as a competent and dependable person, who delivered on assignments with dedication and honesty.

He  sympathised with the immediate family of the deceased, the government and people of the state on the loss and pledged that he would support security agencies in apprehending the culprits.

He urged those with useful information that can lead to the arrest to make same available to security agencies.

Dr. Adyorough’s spent his good time in United States of America where he once served as the President of the Mutual Union of Tiv People in the U.S. before he came to take up an appointment with Ortom’s administration.
