Breach of contract: NSUBEB revokes 36 contracts in Nasarawa

Not less than  36 contracts awarded by the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), has been revoked by the state government following contractors refusal to adhere to terms of agreement.

The  Executive Secretary of the board, Yakubu Ubangari, who gave the hint  to journalists on Friday in Lafia, said the projects were spread across all the 13 Local Government Areas others state.

According to Ubangari , the state government through the board revoked the contracts after serving the contractors with several notices of warning to adhere strictly to the terms of the agreement but received no positive response.

“We served the defaulting contractors with several notices of warning to resume site and continue their work but they fail to resume work.

“Some of the projects were done up to 80 per cent, some 60 per cent, some 40 per cent and some just 30 percent respectively”, he said .

He explained the affected contractors are expected to refund the money awarded for the contracts back to the coffers of the state government, adding that, the governor had recently paid N4.3 billion to Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) as its counterpart fund for six years.

Ubangari disclosed that  “we intend to use the N8.6 billon the state accessed from UBEB to implement projects in order to actualise the objectives of basic education in the state.

The Executive Secretary said, the board would also give priority to manpower development by building the capacity of teachers and other staff for better service delivery.
