Brand promotion not walk in the park — Tracy Mensah

Technological revolution has created many social media and brand influencers, but the job in itself is easier said than done. Ghanaian skincare and fashion influencer, Tracy Mensah Akosua Dede, is an emerging powerhouse in brand influencing in her country.

Having achieved credibility with content creation on TikTok and Instagram, Tracy Mensah has access to a large audience and can share information to persuade them and drive social media engagement through their authenticity and reach. While the COVID-19 pandemic shut humans indoors in 2020, she rather opened her mind to explore the best of the situation.

Tracy Mensah, the first of five siblings, started content creation out of the quest to kill boredom but after she realised the amount of followership she had garnered within a short time, she made interesting changes to her content online. Like they say, the rest is now history. With 330,000 followers on Instagram and 1.6 million followers, she has become one of the top fashion, beauty and skincare influencers in the West African country.

After her secondary education at Pentecost Senior High School, Tracy Mensah Dede is currently studying for a degree at the University of Ghana. The career has brought her fame and success but she has highlighted the inherent challenges she encounters. According to her, the niche is sometimes not appreciated well enough.

“This is one of the toughest aspects of influencing. It requires everything about you to get the job done. When it comes to fashion, I can’t always show the full beauty of the dress or even enjoy it. To someone watching, it might look like I’m showing off, but in reality, it’s an advert I’m running.

“The audience sometimes can’t differentiate between ads and showing off, which makes the work exhausting. I don’t think this niche is appreciated enough. Skincare is one of the most challenging areas for influencing. You need to present a product that will enhance their skin, or you’ll be heavily criticized,” she said.

Through the ups and downs, Tracy Mensah Akosua Dede revealed that her career has been financially rewarding. It has also exposed her to a lot of business opportunities.

“The journey has truly been a rollercoaster, trust me. It has been financially rewarding. I tapped into the fashion side of influencing and did my best to represent brands. Through this industry, I have met stakeholders from construction to real estate, travel, and tourism. Now, I am trying to adjust myself to accommodate space for real estate marketing and advertising,” Tracy Mensah stated.

They say people who have a heart for others are gods among humans.  Tracy Mensah Dede not only commands huge influence on Instagram and TikTok, but she also possesses a large heart. In an era where most people find the push in selfish desires, part of her “motivation” for being an influencer “is to be myself while still helping the needy.”
