African Students’ Union Parliament (ASUP) has conferred on the Vice-Chancellor Bowen University, Iwo, Professor Joshua Ogunwole its prestigious award; Icon of Nation Building and Education Development in view of his notable impact on the progress of the institution and character building of the students within the short time he assumed the office.
Speaking at the presentation of the award to the institution and the Vice-Chancellor at an event held recently, the ASUP Programme Coordinator, from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, comrade Paul Matthew declared that the recent empirical research study carried on Bowen University by the organization, to familiarize itself with the university about its students ‘ welfare, informed the union to give the Vice-Chancellor the deserving award.
According to him, “in the course of monitoring Bowen university’s activities by the union, Professor Ogunwole was found worthy, as a lot has been achieved in the institution since he assumed the office as Vice-Chancellor of the ivory tower.”
He noted that the union is aware of professor Ogunwole’s tremendous input into the tertiary education development process in the country, even before he joined the institution, saying that If such a man as professor Ogunwole could be encouraged, he would do more.
“ In the quest of this organization to seek for itself a role model for African youths and students, we found out that Professor Joshua would fit in better to mentor African youths to become better citizens of our dear continent, Africa. This is what spurred the union to conferred the award on him to appreciate him and to set him as a role model and mentor for African youths and for students to emulate.

“ Professor Ogunwole is a man that is diligent in his duty and humble in character. From all indications, Professor Ogunwole is the type of personality that institutions in Africa would need to drive its transformation process. He is highly skillful with an impressive human relation with the students. ASUP has respect for Bowen University. I have many Bowen University graduates as friends who are doing fine in their respective organizations. As a matter of fact, Bowen is setting a space for other universities in the country to emulate.
“Our vision is to promote African continent to an enviable height , to be one of the foremost students’ organization that will provide Africans with quality leaders that can lead Africa to a greater height. We also have the mandate to sensitise the mindset of African youths to disengage them from all forms of vices in the society. And also to educate them that the future of Africa is in the hand of African youths, either to make or to mar it.
In his response, Professor Ogunwole expressed gratefulness over the award, noting that African Student Union Parliament’s assessment about Bowen University is highly impressive.
According to him, ASUP’s commendation on Bowen University is an indication that the world is watching the university, and “we shall continue to put in our best for the progress of this citadel We believe in students and what they can do. At Bowen, we give our students opportunities to develop their skills for nation-building process,” he said.
