Bowen varsity produces resolute, decisive leaders for global workforce — VC

…holds 23rd matriculation

The Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, Prof. Jonathan Babalola, has reiterated that his administration will continue to commit the university’s resources to producing resolute and decisive graduate leaders grounded in godliness, excellence, innovation, entrepreneurship, and social responsibility, ensuring their relevance in both local and global workforces.

He made this remark recently at the 23rd matriculation ceremony, which was held to welcome the new entrants, approximately 1,600 students, as they commenced their academic programmes across the various colleges in the university.

Prof. Babalola noted that the new students should establish a mindset that their admission into Bowen University is to acquire knowledge that would shape their lives, intellect, mould their character, and ignite the flame of their aspirations.

According to him, Bowen is not just a mere place of academic learning but rather a community deeply rooted in the core values of godliness, excellence, entrepreneurship, innovation, and social responsibility, adding that these are the steps to take that will drive them to fulfilment and put their names in the sands of time.

While the VC encouraged the matriculating students to commit themselves to their studies, he also urged them to shun all forms of immorality, distractions, and vices, stating that the institution would not condone any form of anti-social activities on campus. He stressed further that the university has zero tolerance for drug and substance abuse.

He declared that Bowen University places a high value on discipline and respect for authority, and all students are expected to abide by the rules and regulations laid down by the university. He urged them to uphold the moral standards the university had set, adding that the institution stands on the standard of the scriptures, irrespective of what is happening in society.

Speaking further, the VC thanked the parents for their interest in Bowen University, urging them to exercise patience with the institution regarding issues they do not understand. He encouraged them to allow their children to speak out and share their burdens with the university authorities to express their plights.

Speaking in the same vein, the invited matriculation guest lecturers for the event, Leye Falade, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Brunei Liquefied Natural Gas, and his twin brother, Gbite Falade, MD/CEO of Aradel Holding Plc—both academic and international business achievers of repute—shared their experiential journeys in education as First Class graduates and their achievements in the industrial sector.

They attributed sustainable success in life to hard work, consistency, discipline, godliness, relationships, and recreation, with a sense of optimism to excel in life.

According to them, it is essential for potential achievers to develop a learner’s mindset of acquiring knowledge and skills that will make them self-sufficient and relevant in the marketplace of life.

They urged the new students to remain focused on their studies with determination to excel.

They noted that it is necessary for students to set their priorities right, break down their plans into actionable processes, and pursue them rigorously.

They stressed that life achievements are based on processes, adding that excellence and performance are obtainable through the execution of set goal processes.
