Bowen University has inaugurated a new 150-bed capacity female hostel at the institution’s main campus in Iwo, Osun State.
The project was commissioned on Monday by the Visitor to the university, the President, Nigerian Baptist Convention, Reverend Israel Akanji, with the full support of the members of the university governing council, principal officers, senior staff and student’s leaders in the institution.
Speaking on the occasion, the visitor to the institution, Dr Akanji, stated that Bowen University was established primarily to support the Nigerian government in the development and provision of quality and moral–based tertiary institutions of learning at global standard level in teaching and research respectfully.

According to him, the Baptist Convention had been in the vanguard of providing quality education to Nigerian citizens since 1855 and that the Convention’s schools, primary and secondary, notable for quality education are spread across the country. He said the Convention would not relent in its efforts to ensure quality education under a conducive learning environment in all its schools in the country.
Speaking in the same vein, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Deaconess Joan Ayo (OON), expressed satisfaction with the rapid infrastructural development ongoing in the university, courtesy of able hands of principal officers of the institution headed by Professor Jonathan Babalola, the Vice Chancellor of the institution.
She assured Nigerians that Bowen would continue to upgrade its facilities to create a peaceful and conducive learning environment.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Babalola, in his remarks, stated that the institution had committed not less than N1.48 billion to build the modern day hostel for the female hostel on the campus.
According to him, Bowen University will be compared to none in the provisions of quality education, entrepreneurship, leadership, Godliness and social responsibility, adding that Bowen is a student-friendly institution in the country.
Also commenting on the new hostel, the lead project consultant, Mr Uchechukwu Obed, declared that the new hostel, though is 150-bed capacity hostel, is expandable to accommodate 300 students by the way it was structured.
According to him, the new hostel is security and safety-based edifice, and it was built within eleven months.
He commended the university for its financial commitment towards the project.
The student leader of the institution, Joshua Akintola decaled that Bowen University is a reliable foreign-like institution, fully committed to teaching and reaching. He said the student community believes in the university’s policies and the entire management of the instruction.
According to him, Bowen gives students rooms to contribute to the development of the institution.
