Borno govt to reform M&E framework for greater transparency

Published by

The Borno Government has unveiled plans to reform its monitoring and evaluation (M&E) framework, aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and effectiveness in development projects.

Speaking at a consultative meeting in Maiduguri on Monday, Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Dr Mustapha Malumbe, revealed that the reform will accelerate the state’s 25-year development plan and 10-year strategic actions.

According to Malumbe, the revamped framework will facilitate seamless progress tracking, identify areas for improvement, and inform data-driven decision-making, ensuring better project delivery and sustainable development in the state. He explained that the groundbreaking initiative will revolutionise the way projects are implemented and tracked in the state, paving the way for sustainable development.

The reform is a collaborative effort, coordinated by the Borno State Agency for Sustainable Development and Humanitarian Responses, Ministry of RRR, Ministry of Budget and Planning, Borno Department of Monitoring and Evaluation, and Borno State University.

Director of My IT Consult Limited, Mubaraq Yusuf, explained that the program’s objectives include conducting a readiness assessment to strengthen Borno State’s M&E system. He said, “The consultative workshop aimed to present findings, gather stakeholder feedback, and build support for implementation.”

Yusuf explained that a robust M&E framework is crucial for effective project delivery, enabling performance tracking, coordination between government and development partners, and impact assessment.

He noted, “As the state government embarks on this transformative journey, citizens can expect to see tangible improvements in project delivery and sustainable development.

“With an effective M&E system in place, resources will be utilized efficiently, and projects will have a lasting impact on the lives of citizens.

“The future of Borno State looks brighter than ever, and this reform is a significant step towards achieving sustainable development.

“The new M&E framework will also ensure that projects are aligned with the state’s development priorities, reducing duplication of efforts and ensuring maximum impact.”
