Borno Government, on Wednesday, held a town hall meeting to gather inputs from stakeholders for the 2025 budget.
The meeting, held at the Elkanemi Hall of the Ramat Polytechnic, was declared open by Governor Babagana Zulum, represented by his deputy, Alhaji Umar Kadafur.
Zulum explained that the meeting was aimed at aligning the budget with international best practices, allowing citizens to contribute to the budget.
“The inputs gathered will be incorporated into the 2025 budget and implemented within available resources, in line with our 10-point agenda and 25-year Development plan,” he assured.
Earlier, Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Alhaji Babagana Mallambe, said the meeting was designed to engage stakeholders in creating a people-oriented budget.
Also speaking, Borno NUJ Chairman, Comrade Dauda Iliya, called for quarterly media briefings to track budget implementation.
Stakeholders, including the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Persons Living with Disability, made inputs, commending Governor Zulum for releasing N3 billion for pension and gratuity.
They urged extension of the gesture to local government workers, employment opportunities, quarterly media briefings, disability-friendly policies and protective laws.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Budget and Planning, Dr Philip Shallangwa, urged participants to contribute to creating fiscal documents meeting their aspirations.
