Borno govt donates 110 vehicles, 500 motorcycles to Police, Army

Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has donated 110 operational vehicles, 500 motorcycles, and housing quarters to the police and army to enhance security operations in the state, which is recovering from over a decade of Boko Haram insurgency.

Speaking at the handover ceremony at the Government House in Maiduguri on Friday, attended by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Olufemi Oluyede, Zulum stated that the donation aimed to boost the security agencies’ operational efficiency in defeating Boko Haram and ensuring citizens’ safety.

The governor allocated 60 vehicles to the Nigerian Police and 50 vehicles, along with 500 motorcycles, to the Nigerian military.

Additionally, the police will receive 220 houses at Mai Mala Buni Estate, 20 at Kashim Shettima Estate, and 40 at Wulari, all in Maiduguri.

Zulum emphasized the importance of equipping security forces with the necessary tools to enhance their efficiency and dedication to duty.

He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership in supporting the country’s security agencies.

IGP Egbetokun expressed gratitude to Governor Zulum, stating that the operational assets would enhance emergency response and community patrols, ultimately improving service delivery in Borno State.

Also speaking, COAS Olufemi Oluyede, represented by Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, North-East, Major General Waidi Shaibu, reaffirmed the army’s commitment to defeating Boko Haram, assuring that the vehicles and motorcycles would be used as intended.

The ceremony was attended by top security officials in the state.
