BOOKS and cash prizes have been presented to five girls selected from across different fields of life in Oyo State, who have distinguished themselves in the areas of academic, literary and art, innovation, community development and leadership.

The girls were decorated as the “Oyo Courageous Girls 2018,” at a twin-event of the book launch and award presentation held in Ibadan, the state capital recently.

At the event, tagged “The Girl Courageous Awards 2018 and Book Launch,” organised by Women Connected By Purpose (WCBP), a non-governmental organisation, rewarded  Oluwaloseyitowi Iji, Emiola Jesulayin, Taiwo Angel-Akua, Ibukunoluwa Adisa-Simon and Temitayo Johnson-Laleye, for distinguishing themselves in their areas of specialisation.

They were awarded the cash prize of N20,000, copies of books and other souvenirs each.

Speaking at the launching of the book and the presentation of the awards at an event attended by school girls selected across the state and their parents, the author of one of the books, “Girl Courageous,” Mrs Mofoluwaso Ilevbare, stated the copies of the book were presented to the girls to help them unlock the potential and possibilities in them, adding that the book was a life empowerment material for girls to live their life to the fullest.

The guest speaker at the event, Dr (Mrs) Oluwafemi Abosede Okunlola, while speaking on the topic, “Power Banks of the Adolescent Girls: How to Grow to Your Kairos,” informed the girls in attendance that the adolescent stage was their Kairo time, adding that this was the time to charge their ‘power banks’ and store more energy to be able to lay a solid foundation for their future as she highlighted the 12 ‘power banks’ they needed to ‘charge.’

Mrs Ilevbare, who is also the president of Women Connected By Purpose, said the book and the award were put together as a way of giving back to the society, stating that, “It is an opportunity to inspire young girls, mentor them to become those girls making it differently.”
