Bola Sarumi-Aliyu floats BASA foundation

In times when many people would choose to give themselves to wild orgies of winning and dining while their  neighours roam in search of crumbs, one woman who has been able to see the significance of giving to the needy is Bola Sarumi- Aliyu.

It is not every time one comes across women, who are genuinely concerned about the plight of the poor people in the society. For Bola, who is an astute business woman, lending a helping hand gives her so much joy.

From an early age, Bola learnt the art of giving from her mum, who she described as a free giver, and also learnt that happiness comes not only from being able to wine and dine but also from knowledge that one is the reason others are able to eat and drink.

Like a leaf absorbs sunlight, Bola imbibed the lesson and has made it the cornerstone of her adult life. In fulfilment of her determination to always give back, Bola, who is the daughter of popular Ibadan politician, Sarumi, days back, floated Bola Sarumi-Aliyu Foundation (BASA) that would cater for the poor, unemployed youth and promote education in rural communities and assist indigent women to be self-sufficient.

Her first point of call was  to the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, where she intimated the Oba of her plan to use her wealth to create employment opportunities for the youth by empowering them and helping the needy. Olubadan, in his response, lauded Bola’s initiative and called on other well meaning people of the Ibadan to borrow a leaf from her.
