AGAIN! Boko Haram attacks UNIMAID

Suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers have again stormed University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) main campus killing one security guard who sources said died due to excessive bleeding from the blast.

The loud sound which emanated from the explosion of the male suicide bomber, injuring three others, occurred at about 10:20pm on Sunday while residents of Maiduguri were trying to catch some sleep.

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chairman, Dr Dani Mamman who spoke to the Tribune Online on phone at about midnight said the first explosion that rented the airspace took place at a security post around the commercial area.

Three other explosions and staccato-like weapon firings were heard around Bama Road, Mairi up to Fori axis between midnight and the early hours of Monday, but we are yet to ascertain if it came from the radius of the main campus.

Unconfirmed sources, however, said that a second blast may have taken place at another security post by Sardauna hall with causality especially yet unknown.

Police Public Relations Officer Victor Isuku, however, confirmed the death of the university personnel in the first heavy explosion heard in the city and assured it would be made clearer whether a second suicide bomber sneaked into the campus in early morning.

Meanwhile, at least three other suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers may have died around Zannari suburb where they exploded.

University of Maiduguri has a porous unfenced land area of about 23 km radius manned by unarmed security personnel who dare the insurgents to keep the campus safe.
