The deadly terror sect, Boko Haram has threatened to unleash havoc in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by bombing the city anytime soon.
The sect, in two new videos, hinted of an imminent plan to set off bombs in the city, just as it reacted to the recent release of 82 of the Chibok girls abducted since 2014.
Shuaibu Moni, who is one of the Boko Haram commanders released by the Federal Government in a swap deal for the released abductees, featured in the new video.
This came as the sect resumed its bombing in parts of the troubled North-East as three suicide bombers invaded the University of Maiduguri, leading to the death of four people, including three of the bombers.
A security guard at the university was also killed in the attack that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, while the bombers -two males and one female- were advancing towards the Department of Works of the university.
But in a swift response, the army, through its spokesperson, Brigadier General S. K Usman, dismissed the threat as empty boast and mere propaganda, promising that the army would not relent in “clearing the remnants of the Boko haram terrorist.”
“We wish to state that the terrorist has lost touch with current realities. It was aimed at seeking relevance and attention.
“As you are all aware, he was a direct beneficiary of the process that led to the release of 82 of the abducted girls, and does not have a say or capacity to do anything. Therefore, his threats should be ignored.
“We would like to assure the public that the Nigerian Army is totally committed to the Federal Government’s determined efforts of rescuing all abducted persons and peace in the country.
“The Nigerian Air Force is unrelenting in its bombardment while other security agencies are equally doing their best.
“We have come to a very critical stage of the fight against terrorism and insurgency that requires more patriotism and security consciousness by all and sundry,” the army said.
Meanwhile, four members of the sect and a soldier were killed as troops of 145 and 158 Task Force Battalion and 5 Brigade smashed a fish smuggling ring of the sect.
Spokesperson of the 8 Task Force division of the army, Colonel Timothy Antigha, who made this known, said the terrorists were killed in Julari village, along Kareto-Damasak road in Borno State.
“In the process, the troops recovered 1 AK 47 riffle, 1 Toyota Hilux pick up vehicle, 3 Motorcycles, 35 bags of dry fish, 1 bag of bush meat, 3 bags of sugar and 60 litres of engine oil,” Antigha said.
