Boko Haram Killing: President Buhari has failed to secure Nigerians ― ADP presidential candidate

PRESIDENTIAL candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Engr Yabagi Yusuf Sani, said on Tuesday that the killing of an aid worker, Hauwa Leman, by a faction of Boko Haram was an indication of the failure of the incumbent government to protect the lives of Nigerian citizens.

The Presidential candidate, in a statement he personally signed, said that the lackadaisical attitude shown to the kidnapping of the aid workers by the government of President Muhammadu Buhari’s was indicative of its failure at the most critical security sector.

He said that the government has also been especially lackadaisical in the handling of security issues in the North East.

Hauwa Leman was brutally murdered by a Boko Haram faction, with the name Islamic State of West Africa Province, (ISWAP) after the deadline it gave following the kidnap of the aid workers earlier in the year.

Sani in the statement said that the Federal Government failed to do anything until the ultimatum expired.

He said: “It is painful that the atrocities of Boko Haram have been allowed to linger under President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) despite their promises and claims that Boko Haram has been ‘technically’  defeated.

“This latest killing has exposed the false sense of security that the Buhari government gave to Nigerians, who have now realized that the government only intends to politicise security issues.”

He recalled that before the gruesome murder of Hauwa Leman, one   Saifura Khorsa, another aid worker was brutally killed recently, which according to him, means that the terrorist group had issued warnings as to what will come yet the Buhari government failed to act.

The ADP candidate said that in view of the developments on the security front, President “has no moral justification to seek a second term in office has failed to provide security to the Nigerian people as the killing pattern now appears to be a desperate attempt to drive away the aid workers and entrench an atmosphere of fear, which the terrorists want to exploit to achieve their abominable aims.”

The Presidential candidate also stated that he was alarmed that the terrorist group has threatened to enslave Leah Sharibu, the Dapchi school girl that was abducted by the Boko Haram sect as a “slave for life,” adding that the development was a failure on the part of the administration.

The statement further read: “As we inch towards 2019, the ADP candidate wishes to inform Nigerians that the ADP sees the security of all Nigerians as a cardinal objective and will take all necessary measures to give the people security and to ensure that justice is meted to those who committed this dastardly act.

“Engr. Sani commiserates with the families of Hauwa Leman and all those who have lost their lives because of this insurgency and pray they find the fortitude to bear these irreparable losses. He also calls on the Nigerian government to as a matter of urgency rescue and bring home all those still in Boko Haram captivity and bring the perpetrators to book.

“The ADP flag bearer also admonishes Nigerians not to lose hope  and calls for more support for  the brave men and women of the security forces in their efforts to win the war against terrorism and bring the nation back to the path of peace and prosperity.”
