Boko Haram attacks Yobe community again

For a second time in less than two weeks, Boko Haram on Wednesday evening attacked Katarko, a settlement about twenty kilometers outside of Damaturu, the Yobe state capital.

Katarko Local Government area was under siege for several hours as the military engaged the insurgents in a gun duel to stop them from taking the town.

Heavy gun sounds was heard by residents who live between Yobe State University and Katarko road and as a result, most of them did not sleep in their homes in the night.

Reliable military sources told newsmen that: “The insurgents came in large number to attack the military base in the village but was met with fierce fighting from the Nigerian troops.”

TribuneOnline recalls that the Boko Haram insurgents overran the strategic community in 2015 giving them a leeway into Damaturu which they entered leaving distructions in their trail before they were chased out by Nigerian troops.

Several residents were still in the bush where they went to find solace throughout the night.
