A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has called for an end to the era of what he called “political rascality” in the party, saying for the party to take back what it has lost, all stakeholders must be ready to mend broken fences in the party.
He said this when some leaders of the southwest wing of the party visited him in his Ikoyi residence in Lagos, on Monday.
The PDP chieftain and former chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), specifically urged factional national chairman of the party, Senator Alimodu Sheriff, had to shealth his sword and stop the idea of subjecting the party to needless litigation tussles which he said could be settled in-house.
“To Sheriff, who I know very well, all I have got to say is that enough is enough. Political rascality must stop. For the sake of the future of our great party and the future of generations of this country, we must put an end to this era of political rascality,” he said.
Chief George also pointed out that for the party to win its way back into the people’s hearts and once again become the number one party in the country, leaders of the party must be seen to give top priority to justice, fairness and equity, adding that anything other than this would further alienate the party from the electorate.
He insisted that the anomaly that occurred at Ifako/Ijaiye whereby the name of the candidate that won the party’s primaries was substituted by a different person, should never be repeated if the party was to endear itself to Nigerians once more.
In his remarks, the PDP National Vice Chairman, South-West, Dr Eddy Olafeso, pointed out that there was light at the end of the party’s tunnel, saying every means must be explored to bring all warring factions in the party together, because therein lies the party’s strength.
“Except we work together through our hard times, we may not be able to have a better Nigeria. The party is getting stronger in the southwest, even in the face of the ruling party (APC) decimating the country and unleashing untold hardship in the country. We have no choice but to bury our differences and come together, for the sake of the entirety of Nigerians who are despondent. As Christmas is approaching, you could see despondency on people’s faces, because of the hardship in the land,” he said.
