Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Deputy National Chairman, Chief Bode George, has advised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to wait until 2031 if he wishes to contest for president again.
George cited the PDP constitution and Nigeria’s political reality, emphasizing the need for a southerner to occupy the presidency from 2023 to 2031.
He noted Atiku’s advanced age (81 by 2027) and encouraged him to follow President Joe Biden’s example by stepping down for younger generations.
George referenced Section 7, Sub-section 3(C) of the PDP Constitution, stressing the importance of zoning and rotation for justice, fairness, and equity. He emphasized that power cannot return to the North in 2027 after President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year rule.
“In our party, this is the right and logical thing to do in the present political circumstances.
“But if Alhaji Abubakar is desperate to contest again, I will advise him as a friend, a party man and brother to wait till 2031. By then, he will be 85 years.
“As loyal party members, we must continue to respect PDP Constitution. Fair is fair. I joined the PDP in 1998 and I have remained in this party since,” he stated.
