Biodun Fatoyinbo: Police invite Timi Dakolo, wife for questioning over rape allegation

Published by

The police authorities have invited singer, Timi Dakolo and his wife, Busola, to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, for questioning on Tuesday, over an allegation of rape against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA).

Timi’s wife, Busola, had alleged that Pastor Fatoyinbo raped her at 16 in her house Ilorin at a time she was attending COZA.

In the invitation letter, dated July 18, 2019, the police said, it was investigating a case of criminal conspiracy, falsehood, mischief and Threat to life that your names were mentioned.

Consequently, in the letter signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police, IGP Special Tactical Squad, Force Headquarters, Kolo Yusuf, the couple was directed to report for “an interview”on Tuesday, July 23 by 10:0p am.

“You are kindly requested to interview the undersigned officer on 23/07/2019 by 1000 hours for fact findings through DSP Ibrahim Agu,” the letter read.

Timi Dakolo, reacting to the police invitation, in a post on Instagram said, his lawyer had already notified them earlier to be ready for the police invitation.

On Saturday, the celebrity singer, shared a photo of a white hummer bus in front of his home, and raised the alarm calling on Nigerians to come to his rescue, as he could not confirm what brought the people in the bus to his house.

Also on his Instagram page, Dakolo had accused a “pastor” whose name he didn’t mention “of bribing investigators and engaging in other underhand tactics.”

He wrote, “A pastor? bribing investigating officials to delay summons? Paying dirty bloggers to fabricate things that cover the truth, going to the IG’s (Inspector-General of Police) people under dark to force this case to be posted to Abuja.

“Now this: A false investigation in Abuja when our petition filed since June has not been answered and no invitation has been made to the accused in a rape case? Not one movement towards justice? Rubbishing the legal and criminal system?

“And sending a bus load of policemen and shady men lying in wait to intimidate my wife and children today (Saturday), forcing their way into my home? Is that how real policemen deliver a letter?”

He, however vowed to fight for his wife and children, as he said he would defend his family from “the unrelenting attack of a weak man who thinks he can use money and power to cover his crimes.”

Confirming the police invitation of the Dakolos, the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, Saturday night in a release said,
“The Nigeria Police Force is confirming that its operatives today, 20th July, 2019 served official Invitation Letters on Bisola and Timi Dakolo.

“The invitation is sequel to an on-going police investigation touching on the wider and highly publicized case involving Bisola Dakolo, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo and others.

“It is important however to note that a Police Invitation Letter is not synonymous with a Warrant of Arrest, and must not be construed to be one. Rather, it is a polite investigative tool used in eliciting information voluntarily from parties to aid police investigations.

“Members of the public should see it as a legitimate act in line with the constitutional mandate of the police, which among other things include the investigation of all complaints brought before it.

“The Inspector General of Police, IGP MA Adamu NPM, mni has appealed for calm, and is reassuring Nigerians that the Police Force under his watch will remain professional, impartial and unreservedly committed to the pursuit of justice in this case and all other cases before it.
