A member representing Orelope/Irepo/Olorunsogo federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Olumide Ojerinde, has presented bills for the establishment of a Federal University of Agriculture, Igboho, Oyo state and Federal Medical Centre, Igboho, Oyo pò, Oyo state before the House.
The two bills by the lawmaker are among four bills presented before the House and had scaled the first readings.
Others are bills establishing Federal Polytechnic, Kishi, Oyo State and Federal College of Education, Igbeti, Oyo State.
Speaking with journalists, the lawmaker said that he raised the bills out of his concerns for the constituency and its people.
Hon. Ojerinde, who lamented that the constituency lacked federal presence, added that the situation had impeded growth and development of the area.
“The neglect of my constituency over the years has made our people suffer untold hardship in accessing health care and higher education. My constituents usually resort to embarking on the journey of several kilometres, even outside Oyo state to access health care and quality education”, he said.
The lawmaker said if the tertiary institutions were established in the constituency, it would reduce the rate of out of school children, encourage learning up till higher education level and address marginalisation in the axis.
Hon. Ojerinde also believed that the establishment of the institutions would address rising unemployment in the constituency and the country at large.
