Biafra: Southeast govs move to release IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, meet FG soon

GOVERNORS of Southeast goe-political zone have begun move to effect the possible release of detained Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu as well as stemming the activities of the Movement for Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and other pro-Biafra movements.

Inside source said that security and economic issues topped the agenda of the meeting held in Enugu on Sunday. Governors of Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States were in attendance while Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was conspicuously absent following a delay in his flight from Lagos.

Rising from their meeting that took place at Government House, Enugu, the Igbo governors told reporters that they would soon meet Federal Government to address the issues of IPOB, MASSOB, ecological problem, and power challenges.

The Chairman of the Southeast Governors’ Forum, Dave Umahi who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, said they are committed to carrying out their plans, stressing that they would also meet all stakeholders of southeast region on the mater.

Umahi said, “On the issue of IPOB, MASSOB, Kanu’s detention, ecological problems of Southeast, various water dams that have been abandoned in Southeast, our challenges of power, our challenges of security, and other very many concerns of our people; the Southeast governors today agreed to meet with the various and appropriate authorities of federal presence to address these problems. We are very committed to this and actions already started on these issues.”

“We approved two representatives each of our economic committee of Southeast governors and we have mandated then to immediately meet and fashion out roadmap towards our economic integration and this we will do in coming weeks so that they will present a road map for our economic indices and development in our next meeting”, he added.

Governor Umahi of Ebonyi also used the opportunity to deny a section of media reports that Government House, Abakiliki was gutted with fire at the weekend.

“Let me digress a little to say that there was no fire incident at Government House of Ebonyi State. That’s not correct. What happened was that the office of Chief of Staff was over used the air conditioner and it has a little problem.”
