Beware of praise singers, charlatans ― Isaac Adebayo Adeyemi

The chairman of the governing council of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Professor Isaac Adebayo Adeyemi, has admonished the newly appointed rector of the Polytechnic, Professor Kazeem Adekunle Adebiyi, to beware of those he described as praise singers and charlatans.

He also counselled the new rector and his management team not to be carried away by their positions, but to operate an open door policy as much as possible.

Professor Adeyemi, the pioneer vice chancellor of the Bells University of Technology, Abeokuta, gave the admonition while addressing the new management team of The Polytechnic.

“Beware of praise singers and do not surround yourself with charlatans. Try as much as humanly possible to ensure that your decisions and actions are merit-based, dependable and in the interest of the system,” he said.

He commended the immediate past management of the institution led by Professor Olatunde Fawole for its achievements, and the acting management team headed by Femi Ipadeola for “a job well done.”

Responding, the new rector pledged the commitment of his management team to upholding the core values of the institution, while calling for the cooperation of all stakeholders in the institution.

“No success that can be achieved by the head without the body and the body without the head. They need to complement each other,” he said.

Speaking last Friday during the formal presentation of the newly appointed management team to the polytechnic community, Professor Adebiyi said: “Our core value is commitment to students, authorities and staff. These are the basic elements that make a successful system.”

He promised that the new management would make the institution to be recognised nationally and internationally.

He also thanked the governing council for the appointment, and the visitor to the Polytechnic, Governor Abiola Ajimobi, “for believing in us and giving us the opportunity to serve.”

In a goodwill message, the acting rector, Femi Ipadeola, lauded the management of the institution for their strides and promised to support the new team.

Members of the new management team are Professor Kazeem Adekunle Adebiyi, rector; Mrs Modupe Theresa Fawale, registrar; Mr Adebayo Ojetola, bursar; Dr Samuel Ajala, chief librarian, and Mr Stephen Ipadeola, director of Works and Services.

Professor Adebiyi is an alumnus of the polytechnic and a former acting vice chancellor of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.
