Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Tuesday, the Head of Service (HOS) in the state, Mrs Susan Modupe Oluwole, said that criteria to judge the best worker would include the level of productivity, punctuality, attendance, disposition, carriage, dressing, courtesy, the sincerity of purpose, among others.
The HOS, who said that a committee for the project had been constituted, added that the best worker would also be considered to win a house that would be built by the government.
Mrs Oluwole, who said that civil servants in the state are worth celebrating, added that main objective of the celebration was to acknowledge their contributions to the development of the emerging countries of the African continent and to highlight the importance of the service at the National and state levels in meeting the challenges of the 21st century.
She said that the civil service would continue to depreciate if the government does not appreciate people who do the work.
The Head of Service also said that the government could get the best out of its workforce when they are in good health condition and a good state of mind.
On payment of workers’ salary, she said that there are some states that earn more than civil servants in Kwara State that had not been paid for months, saying that, “I know some states that owe up to four, nine months salaries”.
She said that there are no backlog of promotion and salaries, adding that the state was up to date in payment of pension.
“Kwara state is one of the states that has up to date payment of pension, in Kwara State anybody that is working and retired take a salary at the same time. Sometimes pensioners take their salary before the ones in service”, she said.
