Benue PDP chairmen endorse Terhile Utaan for national chairmanship

The newly elected local government chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party in Benue State have endorsed Terhile Utaan as the sole nominee for the national chairmanship of the party.

The PDP chairmen from the 23 local government areas of the state, during a press briefing held in Makurdi on Wednesday, said that the replacement of Dr Iyorchia Ayu should come from the same senatorial district.

According to the spokesman of the group, Adigo Teseer, who is the PDP chairman of Katsina-Ala LG, emphasised the need for a spirit of equity, fairness, and justice to prevail in the choice of Ayu’s replacement.

He said, “In fulfilment of our civic duty as chairmen of the PDP in the 23 local government areas of Benue State, we individually and collectively openly and publicly today, Wednesday, 9th October 2024, endorse that sole candidate from Benue Zone B in the person of Engr. Conrad Terhide Utaan as the sole nominee of the PDP in Benue State to replace Dr. Iyorchia Ayu as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The PDP local government chairmen who converged in Makurdi said they considered the nominee as the only aspirant from the senatorial district to replace Ayu.

“We take the stand that the candidate be accorded the privilege of being the sole nominee of the PDP from Benue State to replace Dr. Iyorchia Ayu as national chairman,” Terseer said.

The chairmen further said that their decision will also be communicated to the State Executive Committee of the party in the state for onward action and transmission to the Zonal Executive Committee of the party, which in turn should transmit to the National Working Committee of the party.

Aside from Utaan, the former governor of the state, Senator Gabriel Suswam, is also in the race for the national chairmanship of the party.
