Benue gov tasks Corps members on national unity

Published by

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, on Tuesday, charged corps members serving in the state to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s development and uphold unity as they commence their service year.

Alia gave the charge during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II orientation course held at NYSC orientation camp at Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area of the state.

While encouraging them to integrate with their host communities, to make positive impacts, respect local cultures, the governor warned them to refrain from local politics in their places of primary assignment.

Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth, Sports, and Creativity, Terkimbi Ikyange, emphasised the values of patriotism, integrity, and hard work.

According to the governor, “This three-week orientation course that you actively participated in is designed for all of you to contribute meaningfully to the overall development of this great country as you go to your various places of primary assignment.

“There is a need for you to integrate and appreciate the culture and traditions of the people, while at the same time encouraging you to live peacefully with them and refrain from participating in local politics.

He further urged the corps members to be proactive in using the skills acquired during the orientation programme to tackle youth unemployment and contribute to the socio-economic and political development of Benue State.

“As mirrors of society, I admonish you to impact positively on your host communities and transfer the knowledge acquired during the skill acquisition training to better their lives and stem the tide of youth unemployment,” the governor said.

Governor Alia also assured the corps members of their security and welfare, affirming that his administration would prioritise their well-being.

In her earlier speech, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Veronica Garba expressed gratitude to the governor for his support, particularly in tackling erosion challenges at the camp, and encouraged corps members to apply the skills they have acquired.
