Oba of Benin
The Benin Traditional Council (BTC) has disowned an online fundraising reportedly organized by Comrade Clement Erhanomigho Edegbe, Eddie Murphy Idahosa and others.
A statement on Wednesday in Benin City by BTC secretary, Mr Frank Irabor denied that the social media influencers have the backing of the Palace of the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba Ewuare II.
Irabor accused the fundraisers of attempting to raise $13,000 to secure the services of a lawyer to challenge a court case involving one Murphy Uti who is reputed for serially casting aspersions on the revered Benin monarch from his base in Germany.
The scribe wrote: “For the avoidance of doubt and clarity, the Benin Traditional Council wishes to say that the Oba of Benin Palace did not authorize any person(s) to embark on such online fundraising on behalf of the Oba of Benin.
“Consequently, the Benin Traditional Council wishes to advise Edo sons and daughters at home and in the Diaspora to ignore the fraudulent online fundraising as the organizers do not have the authority of the Palace to do so.”
