Kogi state Governor, Yahaya Bello
The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State, on Wednesday, accused the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, of feeding the public with lies over his performance in the state.
The party in a statement signed by the state publicity secretary, Bode Ogunmola, said the present administration had nothing on ground that points to economic growth in the state.
The party also condemned the recent political rally held in Okene where over 10,000 PDP members reportedly decamped to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ogunmola said, “Our great party, the Peoples’ Democratic Party PDP, Kogi State chapter has watched the ongoing emasculation of the socio-economic development of the state under the Yahaya Bello led administration with dismay.”
“Apart from outright disregard for laid down rules and procedures in carrying out government business, Governor Yahaya Bello has been feeding the public with lies through his propaganda machinery. Nothing on ground in Kogi state points to economic growth.”
Speaking on the Okene rally, the PDP said, “Unfortunately, the recent absurdity promoted by INEC in the case of double registration involving Governor Yahaya Bello, has emboldened him to violate another electoral law with the recent political rally he organised in Okene purportedly to receive ‘food is ready politicians’ from PDP to his party.”
“Despite the huge resources the state expended on hiring the rented crowd, the programme was a total failure, reflecting the displeasure of his own people with his style of administration.”
“It is certain that the people of central senatorial district are highly dissatisfied with abysmal performance of Yahaya Bello as governor of the state.”
However, the state government while reacting to the allegation, said the PDP was only rattled by the ‘political tsunami’ that has annihilated the party in the central senatorial district.
The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Petra Onyeagbule, said the PDP needed to ask itself why its members are defecting to the APC in the state under the leadership of Bello.
She said, “We are disappointed that the PDP is not graduating from why it lost the last elections in the state. How much can we give 85,000 people other than good governance? Those who turned out believe in the Governor and his ‘New Direction Agenda’ for the state.”
“They have seen new roads, new hospitals, new schools, and are being empowered to drive the economy. What we paid was good governance.”
“The Governor is deploying the resources of the State to build roads and provide amenities to the people. He is remodelling our tertiary institutions and our people are seeing the difference we promised.”
