Believe in God fully, even in extremely difficult situations, Anglican Bishop charges

The third session of the eighth synod of Offa Diocese, Anglican Communion, was held at Our Saviour’s Anglican Church, Ipee Road, Offa, Kwara State, under the leadership of the Lord Bishop of the Diocese, the Right Reverend Dr Solomon Olusola Akanbi.

During the three-day programme, which was themed “Take thy Cross daily and follow me” and drawn from Luke 9:23, Bishop Akanbi delivered a message urging Christians to have complete faith in God even in challenging circumstances.

“This means that we should fully believe in God even in extremely difficult and painful situations,” he stated, emphasising that Jesus Christ, as our perfect example, endured suffering and pain for our sake.

He also encouraged Christians to practice self-denial for the sake of God’s Kingdom.

The synod addressed various issues concerning the state of the nation, including the devaluation of the Nigerian currency, unemployment, insecurity of lives and property, poor leadership, ritualistic killings, the economy, power, education, and healthcare.

“We call on the APC-led government to improve the country and transform it into a new nation so that the ‘Japa’ syndrome will soon become ‘Japada’,” the synod announced.

The event also urged Nigerians, particularly Christians, to remain focused and committed to following the Creator and the source of salvation, avoiding distractions.

The three-day programme, preceded by a three-day revival programme, saw the participation of the wife of the Bishop, Mrs Christianah Kehinde Akanbi, who is the President of the Women and Girls’ Organization, as well as representatives from the House of Bishops, House of Clergy, and House of Laity.

Dignitaries present included the Archbishop of Kwara Province and Bishop of New Bussa Diocese, the Most Reverend Israel Afolabi Amoo; The Most Reverend Emmanuel Adekola; The Bishop of Igbomina Diocese, The Right Reverend Abiodun Ogunyemi; Bishop of Diocese of Ekiti Kwara; The Right Reverend Festus Sobanke of the Diocese of Omu-Aran; Right Reverend Dr Seun Aderogba of Jebba Diocese; Bishop of Kwara, The Right Reverend Timothy Adewole represented by Venerable C.O. Amusan; Right Reverend Jide Adebayo of Igbomina West; and the Right Reverend Dr Olugbenga Baba-Tunji, the Bishop of Osun, who preached at the thanksgiving service.

The Deputy Governor of Kwara State, Mr Kayode Alabi, was represented by Honorable Jare Olatundun, Chairman TIC, Offa Local Government, at the thanksgiving service.
