Beef up security around lawyers

Published by

Kidnappers recently kidnapped a lawyer based in Ibadan, Mr. Musibau Adetunmbi at Iwaraya Community Area in Osun State. Eye witnesses, particularly the junior lawyers who were with him on that day, told the Oyo Bar chairman that their boss was on his way to perform his legitimate duty when he was kidnapped and whisked to an unknown destination. Many people, families, colleagues, friends were unhappy while many went to the Mosque and Church to pray that God touch the heart of the kidnappers so as to have a rethink to release the said Ibadan-based legal icon, Mr. Musibau Adetunmbi. As fate would have it, he was later released unhurt.

It is true that government is doing well by providing security for our judges and magistrates in Nigeria. In view of this, senior lawyers in the country should also be protected. I want to make a passionate appeal to the Inspector General of Police, Mr Muhammad Adamu, to do something to protect senior lawyers from being kidnapped.

I see no reason anyone in Nigeria should wake up and think of kidnapping lawyers. If one is cheated and you want justice, it is the lawyers that will assist you. While commending the Osun State Police Command for a job well done, I reiterate that senior lawyers in Nigeria deserve respect.

Let me use this medium to ask the Federal Government of Nigeria, under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, to do more for youths so as to touch their lives. If it will require the government to take foreign loan to assist the youths, I think it is good to do that. The government is expected to seek international support to end kidnapping in Nigeria. This is necessary because nobody knows the next victim.
