A tailor, Mrs Anna Olowola has pleaded with an Agege Customary Court in Lagos State, to end her 11–year-old marriage to her husband, Adeyeri, due to allegations of infidelity and physical abuse.
Narrating her ordeal, the mother of three told the court that her husband was not faithful and didn’t hide it in anyway.
“We have been married for eleven years but I have known him since I was a teenager.
“I was forced to marry him because he impregnated me. He was not like this before, he suddenly changed when his business started booming. He would go out at odd hours and come back home drunk.
“My husband has turned me into a laughing stock in the neighbourhood because he chases after anything in skirt. He even sleeps with teenage secondary school girls.
“I am tired of complaining because any time I do, we always end up fighting. He beats me at the slightest provocation and I can’t take it anymore.
“To be honest, he meets the children’s needs, but the physical and mental torture I go through in his hands are too much for me to bear,” she told the court.
The plaintiff specifically asked for the custody of the children.
She also asked the court to mandate her husband to take responsibility of the children.
The defendant, however, denied the allegation claiming that his wife was bent on listening to rumours.
“I do so much for my family but all I get are complaints. I have never beaten my wife, on the contrary, she is the one that beats me.
“I still love my wife and children and I am willing to change my ways,” he said.
The court president, Chief R.A Williams, after listening to the two, asked them to bring two members of their family for possible reconciliation. The matter was adjourned till March 4, for further hearing.
