Be the leader that you are (I)

Leadership is a very critical issue to whatever will be successfully accomplished in life and the truth of the matter is that each of us are leaders at one level or the other in different sectors and departments of life.

“If you could envision the type of person God intended you to be, you would rise up and never be the same again.” Sean Covey

Many times people do not recognize their leadership potential and talk less of maximising it.

“Contrary to popular opinion, leadership is not a reserved position for a particular group of people who were elected or appointed, ordained or enthroned.” Israelmore Avivor

“Men make history and not the other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better.” Harry S. Truman

We all have been endowed with leadership grace. For our lives to count we must take responsibility.

“Success on any major scale requires you to accept responsibility… In the final analysis, the one quality that all successful people have is the ability to take on responsibility.” Michael Korda

We will look at a few bible passages to buttress the fact that we all have leadership potential.

“And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD.” Deuteronomy 28:13.

Headship is leadership. You are the head and not the tail – the head sends signals to and controls the tail. As a head you are designed to perform certain functions by virtue of who you are.

Let us look at these functions based on the features in the head.

The brain – you are designed and have the potential to function, in furtherance of your headship and leadership, to be a powerhouse for generating, thinking and processing information.
The eyes – the power of vision is available to you as the head. You can receive and see the picture of the future that you designed to create and lead people to live in.

“Create a vision of who you want to be, and then live into that picture as if it were already true.” Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The ears – you have the ability to receive information thereby being equipped with the resources to operate in accuracy. The ear also plays a very vital role in balance. Without your input in the place you are designed to lead things will be out of place.
The mouth – you are a voice and not an echo. You are designed to give direction by your voice.

BE THE LEADER THAT YOU ARE Part 2

Last time we began looking at being the leader we are designed to be. Leadership is a very critical issue to whatever will be successfully accomplished in life and the truth of the matter is that each of us are leaders at one level or the other in different sectors and departments of life.

We were looking at a few bible passages to buttress the fact that we all have leadership potential.

Every believer is a king and a priest.

“And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, and hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” Revelation 1:5-6.

We have been made kings and priests already. As a king you are authorized to:

(a) Rule (b) Reign (c) Exercise authority (d) Exert influence (e) Make decrees.

A king by virtue of his office is a leader and we are kings we are leaders

From this we see that every believer has leadership potential- this means we all have the potential and the capacity to become leaders.

“For the word of a king is authority and power, and who can say to him, what are you doing?” Ecclesiastes 8.4

Many times, we shack our leadership responsibilities by thinking leadership has to be executed through a position or office. Leadership is influence. Whenever and wherever we can exercise influence we are discharging leadership responsibilities.

It’s time to take our place and make a difference.

We must develop our leadership potential.

“The great news is that leadership abilities can be developed! Leaders I respect possess all of these qualities:

They think big! They don’t install a ceiling. There is no cap on how big or much better anything can be.

Their objectives are clearly defined, and attention is not diverted from them.

They make clear to everyone concerned what the end goal is.

They can enforce commands, and they know when to follow the rules.

They offer praise and corrective action without apology.

When goals are attained, new ones are set, or the standard is raised.

All of the aforementioned, coupled with sincerity, reliability, self-love and respect for others, increase the likelihood that others will voluntarily follow your lead.” Marie Carmen
