Be self-positioned for nation building, Kwara gov enjoins corps members

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara state has enjoined the newly sworn-in corps members in the 2023 batch C stream 2 orientation course across the country to be more intentional in contributing their quotas to the quest for national development.

Speaking through the Senior Special Adviser and Counsellor to the governor, Alhaji Saadu Salahu, the governor urged the corps members to take a cue from their predecessors who geared their national service towards active participation in nation-building through their various Community Development Services (CDS).

The governor also assured the youth of adequate welfare and security, saying that the state, noted for peace and harmony, has the highest number of inter-tribal marriages in the country.

He, however, warned them not to get involved in local politics or disrespect the cultural values of their host communities.

Also speaking, the State Coordinator, NYSC Kwara state, Mr. Onifade Olaoluwa, reiterated the level of preparedness of the scheme to have a successful orientation exercise. He said that the whole camp has been fumigated immediately after the 2023 stream 1 orientation course to create a habitable environment for the new stream.

He also said that casual hands are engaged in proper cleaning and maintenance of hygiene in the corps members’ hostels’ conveniences. The NYSC boss in the state explained that services of veterinarians and other personnel were also engaged to screen consumables, adding that corps members were also co-opted in supervision of the processes of all the meals on camp.

The state coordinator further said the camp is highly regimented, and warned that no act of indiscipline would be condoned.

He added that some activities, such as Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development training, lectures, drills, Man O’ War physical exercise, games and sports, amongst others, had been put in place for corps members to participate in.

He, however, urged them to disclose their health status in order to be better served by the medical team on camp, adding that their medical well-being is more important to the scheme.

Present at the occasion were the chairman NYSC State Governing Board, Kwara State Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Usman Yunusa Lade, the Chief Judge Kwara State, Hon. Justice Hannah Ajayi

Others are Senior Assistant to the Governor on Religion Matter, Alhaji Ibrahim Dan-maigoro. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Development, Alhaji Abdulrazaq Babatunde Alabere, among others.
