National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Director General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim
Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, Director-General of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), has instructed corps members to be security conscious at all times during the course of the services year.
The DG gave this charge, on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, during the closing ceremony of the 2021 Batch ‘C’, stream I corps members at the permanent orientation camp, Iseyin.
Ibrahim, in a statement delivered by the Oyo State Coordinator, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe, told corps members to be security conscious as they proceed to their place of primary assignment.
He said, “corps members, as you proceed to your locations of primary assignment, I urge you to be security conscious at all times. Steer clear of acts that can put you in harm’s way such as staying out late at night, attendance of night parties, visitation of dangerous places, and acceptance of car rides from strangers.
“You can rest assured that management remains committed to your security and general welfare. Accordingly, we are in constant liaison with security agencies and other stakeholders with the view of ensuring your safety as well as addressing other essential needs for a fulfilling service year.”
Ibrahim also urged corps members to accept their posting in good faith, urging them to contribute their quota to the development of the country and their host community.
“I would like to remind you of your oath of allegiance in which you pledged to accept posting in good faith. I enjoin you to perform your duties with diligence and be guided by the provisions of the NYSC act and bye-laws as well as workplace rules and regulations.
“In keeping with the objectives of the scheme, you are expected to integrate into your host communities while also appreciating and respecting their cultures. I must, however, emphasize that engagement in their local politics is a no-go-area for you.
“Furthermore, I enjoin you to undertake personal and group Community Development Service projects that will help to uplift the living standard of the people,” he noted.
Ibrahim also advised corps members to avoid unauthorised journeys, saying “travelling at night will not only increase the risk of an accident but also make rescue difficult.”
“You are, therefore, advised to always cut short your trips from six o’clock in the evening and pass the night at military barracks and other locations officially designated as safe. Furthermore, you should board vehicles only at approved motor parks to avoid falling prey to criminals,” he added.
