Sokoto State Governor, Dr Ahmed Aliyu, has urged corps members posted to the state to sustain the spirit of patriotism, hard work, and resilience which they have imbibed during the orientation course to move the nation forward.
The governor stated this on Tuesday at the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Orientation Course in Wamakko local government, permanent orientation camp of the state.
Represented by his deputy, Muhammad Idris Gobir, the governor urged them to strive to meet the expectations of Nigerians by contributing towards the progress and development of the country.
“My dear compatriots, as you begin the next phase of the service, I urge you to sustain the spirit of patriotism, hard work, and resilience, which you imbibed during the Orientation Course.
“It is my ardent hope that you will strive to meet the expectations of Nigerians by contributing towards the progress and development of our dear country”, Aliyu stated.
Aliyu further admonished them to avoid the use of social media for ethnic jingoism, rumour peddling, and the promotion of hatred; rather, their activities online should be targeted at self-improvement as well as for the promotion of unity, peace, and development of the country.
Advising them further, the governor said they must be wary of acts that can portray the scheme in a bad light, especially drug abuse and trafficking, cybercrime, and advanced fee fraud.
He further advised them to respect the cultures and customs of their host communities, stressing that their security is guaranteed in the state.
He said the state government would enhance their welfare, saying the state allowance would be sustained.
He warned ministries, departments, and agencies in the state not to reject any corp member for any reason.
On his part, the NYSC state coordinator Alhaji Usman Yakubu Yaro said the three weeks of training received on camp has not only instilled in them the core values of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme but has also impacted positively on them, preparing them to embark on developmental projects that will help uplift the nation.
Usman further stated that the majority of the corps members were posted to rural areas where their services are highly needed.
He maintained that 95 per cent of the corps members were posted to schools to contribute their quota to the development of the educational sector in the state.
