BBC debate: Governorship candidates promise agric revolution in Kwara

THREE of the 32 governorship candidates for the coming general elections in Kwara State said that they are committed to the agricultural revolution to address hunger and poverty among people of the state.

Speaking at a political debate programme organised by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Yoruba service in Ilorin on Thursday, the trio said that large expanse of land across the 16 local government areas of the state would be utilised for massive production of agricultural produce for the prosperity of the state.

Governorship candidates of Accord Party, Prince Ayorinde Adedoyin, the Labour Party flag bearer, Comrade Issa Aremu and candidate of Abundance Nigeria Renewal Party, Dr Yinka Ajia, were the three out of 32 governorship candidates that attended the programme.

The governorship candidates, who said that farmers in the state would be provided with modern tools and equipment to facilitate large scale production, added that they would have access to free interest loan to enhance their productivity.

On tourism, the candidates promised to revive moribund industries in the state and provide enabling environment like road construction, electricity etc to promote tourism and better opportunities for business growth.

They also said that education, health, youth empowerment, the industrial revolution, women empowerment among others would be given due attention to improving the living standard of the people.

They, therefore, urged people of the state to be vigilant and ensure that candidates with good integrity are voted into office during the polls to add value to the socio-economic development of the state.
