Bayo Lawal: Loyal deputy, cornerstone of leadership

“Trust is earned, respect is given, and loyalty is demonstrated—Anonymous

AT the background of every successful leader’s journey lies a loyal deputy—a trusted confidant whose loyalty knows no bounds, whose commitment to the leader’s vision is unwavering, and whose contributions are indispensable to the realization of shared goals and aspirations. Far from the spotlight that often illuminates the leader, he operates in the shadows, serving as a pillar of support, counsel, and reliability. If loyalty were a person, it would be Barrister Abdulrahreem Adebayo Lawal, the deputy governor of Oyo State. Barrister Lawal embodies the virtues of loyalty, integrity, and selflessness. In times of uncertainty and adversity, he will stand resolutely by the leader’s side, offering solid support as demonstrated by the unfortunate explosion that rocked the Bodija axis in Ibadan recently.

Bayo Lawal’s unflinching commitment to Governor Makinde’s vision and leadership of Oyo State transcends personal ambition or recognition. It is driven instead by a deep sense of duty and allegiance to a higher purpose of service to the people of Oyo State. Lawal’s role extends far beyond mere loyalty. They serve as a sounding board for his principal, offering sage counsel and invaluable perspective borne from years of experience. His insights and wisdom help steer positive and impactful leadership toward the people.  The Oke Ogun-born legal luminary is a catalyst for unity and cohesion within the ranks of leadership.

Through his humility, empathy, and absolute commitment to the common good, he has inspired camaraderie, fostered collaboration, and cultivated a culture of mutual respect and trust—a culture that is essential for actualising the vision of his principal, Governor Seyi Abiodun Makinde. The story of Lawal, as deputy governor, is a testament to the transformative power of loyalty, dedication and selflessness in government. Indeed, it demonstrates how a loyal Lawal, working behind the scenes, is contributing to the success of his principal. No doubt the combination of Seyi/Bayo in the Omituntun 2.0 series, like Gov. Makinde would often say during the 2023 election campaigns, is a “movie’ that will be much more interesting than Omituntun 1.0

As we reflect on the vital role of the amiable Deputy Governor of Oyo State,  let us not overlook his contributions or take his unwavering support for granted. Let us honour the legacy Seyi/Bayo combination is entrenching in Oyo State, cherish his loyalty and emulating his example in our own journeys of leadership and service.  It is also pertinent to commend Governor Makinde for recognising that loyalty is a two-way traffic. He took cognizance of Lawal’s loyalty and vested him with the responsibilities of overseeing three ministries and the Oyo State Housing Corporation. This is unprecedented in the history of Oyo State.  In the steadfast loyalty of Lawal lies the true essence of leadership—a commitment to a cause greater than oneself. A dedication to the service of the people of Oyo State and his Principal, a legacy that will endure long after the passage of time.

I salute you, Barrister Adebayo Abdulraheem Lawal, deputy governor of Oyo State, the pride of Oke Ogun for your loyalty and your dependability as a cornerstone of leadership in Oyo State..
