Bayelsa PDP supporters defy rain to welcome Atiku campaign train

Published by

IN SPITE of the torrential rains, supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Bayelsa State yesterday throng the expansive Oxbow Pavilion in their thousands to welcome the PDP presidential flag bearer, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as he visits the state in continuation of his nationwide presidential campaigns.

The rain which lasted for over two hours disrupted proceedings and the customary presentation of flags to candidates of the party. However, most of the dignitaries had already finished their speeches before the downpour began.

Atiku, who could barely speak for three minutes due to the rains, said Nigerians were not better off under the Muhammad Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC led, administration as the people were getting more poorer and more insecure under the present administration.

While thanking the people of the state for keeping faith with the PDP, Atiku said he was not in the state to the campaign but to pay his tributes to the people of Bayelsa for their unflinching support and loyalty to the PDP over the years.

Atiku said: “This election that is coming is about the future of our country and the future of our youths. When APC came to power, they promised three things; they promised to repair the economy to make it better than what the PDP did but they have made it worse. They promised to fight corruption but today Transparency International says we are more corrupt than when the PDP was in power. They say they came to secure Nigeria but today there is insecurity in North East, North Central and North West. Are we secured? So I appeal to you to voting for the PDP.”

In his remark, former President Goodluck Jonathan said Atiku as a man who loves the Ijaw people and the best candidate who will unite the country and the kind of man who Bayelsans could die for.

In his remark, the national chairman of the PDP Prince Uche Secondus described President Buhari as a dictator and a chameleon for sacking the head of another arm of Government without following due process.

Also speaking Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson, described the PDP presidential candidate as a man who understands the problems and challenges of the of Bayelsa state and the Niger Delta, stressing that Atiku understands what restructuring means which is what the people of the region was clamouring for.
