The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bayelsa State Council, Comrade Tonye Yemoleigha, has called for synergy between journalists and the Nigerian Police Force to promote information sharing and intelligence sharing to safeguard lives and property of Bayelsans and Nigerians
Comrade Yemoleigha made the call when the executive members of the State Council of NUJ paid a familiarisation visit to the Assistant Inspector General, AIG, Zone Sixteen, Dr. Adebola Hamzat, in his office in Yenagoa.
While describing the NUJ and Nigerian Police Force as partners in the progress of society, the NUJ Chairman noted that the synergy will bring a model of security operation that will enhance policing jobs across Bayelsa and Nigeria at large.
He said, “We must deepen the working relationship between Journalists and the Police, especially in information gathering and intelligence sharing, to educate and safeguard the lives and property of Bayelsans and Nigerians.
“While Journalists perform the role of correlation of the environment and investigative journalism, it can be more successful and benefit society more through multi-institutional collaboration”, Comrade Tonye Yemoleigha said.
Responding to AIG Zone 16, Dr. Hamzat appreciated the NUJ Chairman and his team for the visit, saying men and officers of the force are always ready for synergy.
The AIG commended the role of the conventional media in molding public opinion and society generally but admonished bloggers and social media influencers to be professional in their reportage.
He, however, assured that the police are ready to avail themselves whenever they are called upon in line with their mandate.
