Bayelsa govt releases fund for completion of on-going developmental projects

Bayelsa State government has released funds for the completion of ongoing developmental projects across the state, as well as additional N2 billion for the State Universal Basic Education Board, (SUBEB) and Millennium Development Goals.

The projects are at the advance stage but SEC approved the funds to expedite work in order to meet the deadline for the completion, just as it also approved N2bn to boost infrastructure in the primary education sector at the grassroots and empowerment of the youths.

The SEC in a bid to beautify the Ox-bow Lake relaxation centre, decried the dredging activities in the area and called on all owners of dredgers within that vicinity to immediately move out, just as it they posited that fencing at the Ox-bow Lake for security reasons would commence soon.

Shortly after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Jonathan‎ Obuebite who briefed journalists on the resolution added that council agreed to encourage Bayelsans to take advantage of the free boarding school facilities provided by the government with five of its kind already in session, and informed that in July, the sports academy will also commence sporting programmes.

He also called on the people of the state to desist from rumour and those engaged in it under the guise of online media platforms as their penchant for spreading unfounded stories about the non-payment of
salaries is now known to be guile.

Obuebite reiterated that what the Local Government Areas owes is the backlog which accrued during the period when the entire nation and the state was in recession and stated that no LGA is owing more than 9
months except Ogbia that is owing 10 months arrears; and assured that modalities are been worked out to offset the backlog of salary in the council.

The Commissioner further stated that with the commencement of full salary payment by the council no LGA can pay its entire obligation as their wage bill is more than the allocation of the councils.
